Privacy policy
Your privacy matters here, and this page explains it in plain terms: what we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the say you have over it. It applies to alexander-burton.com and to any order you place with us. We operate from and sell to customers within the United States.
What we collect
What you give us directly:
- Your name
- Your shipping and billing address
- Your email address, and your phone number if you choose to add it
- Your order and purchase history
- Anything you send us by email or message
Card and payment details are entered into and handled by our payment providers. We never see or store your full card number.
What we pick up automatically as you browse:
- Your device and browser type
- Your IP address and approximate location
- The pages you view, the links you click, and how long you stay
- The site or search that sent you to us
- Information from cookies and similar tools (covered below)
Why we use it
- To take, process, and ship your orders
- To send order confirmations, shipping updates, and service messages
- To answer your questions and handle returns
- To spot, prevent, and look into fraud and abuse
- To run, secure, and improve the site and our products
- To measure our marketing and show relevant ads where you've allowed it
- To meet our legal, tax, and accounting duties
Who we share it with
We don't sell your personal information for money. Some sharing with advertising partners through cookies and pixels may count as a "sale" or "sharing" under certain US state privacy laws, and you can opt out of it (see Your rights and choices below).
Beyond that, we share your data only with the partners who help us run the store, and only so they can do that job:
- Our e-commerce platform and hosting provider (Shopify)
- Payment processors, to take payment securely
- Shipping and fulfillment partners, to get your order to you
- Analytics and advertising providers, such as Google and Meta
- Professional advisers and authorities, where the law requires it
Each of these is required to protect your data and use it only for the service they provide to us.
Cookies and similar tools
We use cookies and similar technologies to:
- Keep the site running and hold your cart together
- Remember your preferences
- Measure traffic and how the site gets used
- Serve and measure advertising
You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings, and through our cookie banner where it appears. Switching some off may change how parts of the site behave.
Analytics and ads
We use third-party tools such as Google Analytics, along with advertising pixels from Google and Meta, to understand our traffic and to show ads on other platforms. These partners may set their own cookies and handle data under their own privacy policies. You can opt out of personalized advertising through Google Ads Settings, your Meta ad preferences, or industry tools like the Digital Advertising Alliance.
Keeping your data secure
We protect your information with encryption in transit (SSL) and with reasonable technical and organizational safeguards. No online system is ever fully secure, so we can't promise absolute security, but we work hard to keep your data safe and to act fast if anything goes wrong.
How long we hold it
We keep personal information only for as long as it's needed for the purposes set out here, including order records we're required to retain for legal, tax, and accounting reasons. Once it's no longer needed, we delete it or strip it of anything identifying.
Your rights and choices
You can ask us to:
- Show you the personal data we hold about you
- Correct anything that's wrong
- Delete your data, where we're not required to keep it
- Stop marketing emails, using the unsubscribe link or by contacting us
California residents also have the right to know what we collect, to request deletion, and to opt out of any "sale" or "sharing" of personal information for targeted advertising. We will never treat you differently for exercising these rights. To opt out, contact us or use the "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" link on our site.
To make any request, email customercare@alexander-burton.com. We may need to verify who you are first.
Children
Alexander Burton isn't aimed at children, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you think a child has given us their details, contact us and we'll remove it.
Sites we link to
Our site may link out to websites we don't control. We're not responsible for their content or their privacy practices, so please read their policies before you share anything with them.
Updates to this policy
We may revise this policy as our practices or the law change. The current version always lives on this page under the "last updated" date shown above, and we'll make any significant change clear.
